It’s not very often you see a room with turquoise velvet sofa or a bright fuschia color scheme, that’s what draws you in when you step into the lobby of the Andersen Hotels. When most hotels these days seem to be leaning towards the sterile white or beige color schemes, isn’t it so fun to stay in a room with such vibrant interiors? All 73 of their rooms and suites at Andersen Hotel feature unique wallpaper, cushions and curtains by the Designers Guild. Here is a quick review of our stay at Andersen, a charming and colorful Boutique Hotel in Copenhagen.
WHAT IS IN THIS POST
Location, Location…
Andersen Hotel is located in Vesterbro, which is the heart and also the red light district of Copenhagen but don’t let that bother you because it is just a mixed neighborhood with bars and restaurants and one “nightclub” at the end of the street. The hotel is perfectly located with walking distance to Tivoli, the Central Station and even Strøget – the big and longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe. We walked over to the hip Kødbyen meat packing district several times to try out the excellent restaurants and cool cafes there. Just make conversation and have the kids look in a different direction when you pass that one shop window full of sex-toys and fishnet stockings. If the sounds at night bother you request for a room facing the interior courtyard instead of the street.
Checking in at Andersen Hotel Copenhagen
We were in an amazing Junior Suite featuring Phillip Stark designs which was perfect for families. We had the turquoise “Mermaid” color room with the fuschia and purple “Princess” color is the other choice. Our Junior suite had a spacious sitting area with a turquoise velvet sofa, a little glass coffee table just big enough to put a couple of wine glasses and a flat screen TV that swung round to be viewed either from the sofa or the bed. The velvet sofa converted to a bed that the kids slept on quite comfortably.
We loved their Concept 24 where you get to keep the room for 24 hours – this allows you to keep your room for a full 24 hours from your check in time. This meant that having arrived in the evening, we could check out later in the day, allowing us to keep our room until the afternoon before heading off to the airport. Wish more hotels offered this option.
We had some welcome fruits waiting for us!
I loved the mural on the wall with the names of other places you might want to visit on your travels- Riga, Prague, Oslo …. which kept us trying to plan our future vacations!
There was enough storage in the single wardrobe for all the shoes and jackets we had to bring for our Iceland trip, we were stopping by after a few adventures in Iceland. Next to it was a fridge, a teapot and safe with a clear acrylic mini-bar perched on top with some individual wine bottles, coffee supplies and snacks to purchase. The bed was super-comfy, with a soft and fluffy duvet colorful pillows.
The bathroom was equally colorful with turquoise walls with a large rectangular sink, well-lit mirror and hairdryer on the wall. While most of the rooms have a walk-in shower, our Junior Suite had a bath with powerful shower above. which we shared with the Andersen Hotel rubber duck. The toiletries were from the English company Molton Brown.
Andersen has their own bike that you can rent for the day or for the afternoon and zip through the ultra bike friendly city of Copenhagen.

Breakfast and evening wine hour
Breakfast was served downstairs in the dining area which was partitioned off with a curtain during the day when not in use. The same pink and purple color scheme extended to the breakfast room and to the lobby area. They had a great selection of organic meats, juices, yogurts and of course Danish sweet breads.
I loved their collection of books in the library and the cozy sitting areas all dressed in pinks as well. In the Lobby Lounge you can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine during wine hour in the evenings, if wine is not your vice they also had an honest bar.

Restaurants near Andersen Hotel
You have plenty of great places to eat near the Andersen Hotel in Copenhagen. We walked to the Kødbyen, meatpacking district: the neighborhood that was once reserved for butchers several times for dinner, here are the 2 places we loved:
Mother
The three guys behind Mother, a busy, Italian-style eatery, all have a passion for Italian food and a background in the restaurant business. They serve gourmet pizzas with a sourdough crust made in a wood-fired oven and it’s a great place to sit outside and enjoy a drink and dinner. Their tiramisu was so good D and Mr. Suburbia walked back to get one more on our last day there.
PatéPaté
The winebar-esque restaurant is located in an old liver pâté factory – hence the name – and is owned by Kenn Husted, a wine bar specialist, who is also the man behind a number of other places in Copenhagen. You’ll find PatéPaté on a corner in the Meatpacking District and on hot summer days, you can enjoy a drink in the sun on the benches out front. The kitchen serves dishes inspired by the French, Spanish and Moroccan cuisines and there is a wide array of wines to select from.
